Times Table Rockstars Rock Wrangle Birmingham 2018

Stanton Bridge’s top three Year 6 rock stars represented the school in the Birmingham Rock Wrangle 2018. The competition is for Year 6 and Year 7 children and overall they finished 14th out of over 50 schools, which was a fantastic effort. Well done!

Times Tables Rock Stars (www.ttrockstars.com) is the brainchild of Bruno Reddy, a former Maths Teacher. It is a web and app-based programme which schools and families use to help their children improve their recall of times tables. TTRS, which uses a rock theme to engage the children, is now being used in more than 10,000 schools across the UK and in over 15 countries.

Bruno said “Rock Wrangles are a brilliant way to showcase the talents of the children in their times tables and to make maths fun.”

There were three parts to the morning: Maths puzzles at ‘MathsStock’, having our ‘Rock’ photo taken in rock star poses and of course the Times Table challenge. The Times Table challenge had eleven one minute challenges on tables from 2X to 12X. Our pupils did brilliantly well and were so close to reaching the quarter finals.

After lunch we watched the 16 fastest pupils compete in the quarter finals, then the 8 fastest in the semi-final until we came to the final 4. The final 4 had to compete for 3 minutes, completing multiplication and division questions.

The winning pupil managed to answer nearly 400 questions accurately in just 3 minutes! The winner and his team won a super ride in a helicopter and they certainly deserved it.

We may not have won but we are very proud of our children and their excellent attitude displayed throughout the day. Stanton Bridge cannot wait for next year’s competition!
