Welcome to Year 1! The teachers this year are Miss Newman and Miss Newton and our support staff are Miss Rana and Miss Aurela. This will be a year filled with challenging, engaging and stimulating learning opportunities for all our pupils as they begin their journey in KS1 and primary education. Year 1 is a very exciting year where staff and parents will see the children flourish into independent and critical thinkers.

The transition from Reception to Year 1 is a significant step for all children. Their daily structure changes from a free-flow, learn through play system with small groups or 1:1 learning at different times of the day, to a structured timetable which encourages more independence. Over the course of the year, the children will have the opportunity to work independently, as a group with the class teacher and support staff or on a 1:1 basis with either member of staff. They will also be provided plenty of opportunities to find things out for themselves which will enhance their critical thinking skills, problem solving and resilience. Children will continue to work on previous skills gained in Reception, as well as learning more in depth knowledge through the delivery of lessons in our exciting new curriculum!
