Stanton Bridge Primary School

History statement of Intent

At Stanton Bridge, our history curriculum aims to excite and inspire pupils; to foster curiosity and promote a desire to discover more about the past.

Through our new foundation curriculum, children are given the opportunity to take part in many engaging and interactive activities, all of which seek to enhance their understanding of key historical events and the impact of significant individuals.  Children are encouraged to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgment.  They are exposed to a wide variety of historical topics, ranging from local area studies to the exploration of ancient civilisations.  Over time, the structured sequence of teaching and learning allows children to develop a sound chronological awareness.

Therefore, as a result of studying history, children will leave our school with an improved understanding of the process of change and the diversity of societies.  Moreover, the knowledge pupils acquire will help them to develop a clearer sense of their own identity and the challenges of their time.

Below is the History curriculum overview for the whole school.
