Design and Technology Statement of Intent

At Stanton Bridge primary school we are committed to delivering a progressive skill and knowledge based D&T curriculum. Through the teaching and learning of our D&T curriculum, we intend for all learners to develop technical and practical skills as well as the wider skills valued by employers. Pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in a process of designing and making. Our D&T curriculum provides all learners with the opportunities to develop lifelong skills such as cooking.

The D&T curriculum at Stanton Bridge is inspiring and creative. It allows pupils to design and make products within a variety of contexts, considering their own needs, wants and values. When designing and making the children are taught to use research to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose. The children will use technical skills to build more complex structures and models. They will also be taught how to use mechanical systems in their products. Pupils will learn the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.   In order for our learners to develop transferable skills and a breadth of knowledge, our D&T curriculum has been designed to make links to other areas of learning.
