English writing Statement of Intent
At Stanton Bridge, the main intent of our English curriculum is for every child to leave school fully literate in their spoken and written language.
In our opinion, reading and writing go hand in hand and are both crucial for a child’s development. Therefore, we have implemented an exciting text based curriculum that ensures children are exposed to high-quality texts throughout all year groups. Children are able to use these texts to inspire their imagination when creating their own writing. Furthermore, we believe that the variety of texts the children experience allows them to acquire a wide range of vocabulary. This helps facilitate the children in becoming effective communicators which is pivotal in preparing them for life beyond primary school.
We also inspire children to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and promote the use of discussion to communicate and further learning. From the outset, we believe that children need to develop a secure knowledge base in English, which follows a clear pathway of progression as they advance through the primary curriculum. We believe that this is crucial to a high quality education and will give our children the tools they need to participate fully as a member of society.
