Here at Stanton Bridge, as well as enjoying the challenges presented through a range of interesting learning themes, our curriculum is further enriched by stimulating educational visitors, events and creative themed days.
On Monday the 17th June 2019, we had a specialist Maths Teacher come in and work with our More Able Mathematicians in KS2. Pupils took part in lots of different activities, which challenged them through problem solving and reasoning. They had lots of fun!
Below are some quotes from the children that took part
- "This was a lot of fun because I learnt new skills."
- "It was interesting to work with the Year 6 children." (From a Year 5 pupil).
- "I learnt how to be a better problem solver."
- "Maths can link to magic!"
- "I learnt how to do a magic trick with numbers- it was cool!"
On Thursday 22nd of November, the students in Year 6 had the opportunity to take part in the Primary Maths Challenge. This is a nationally run scheme, designed to promote enthusiasm and boost confidence in mathematics. During the paper, children were presented with 25 questions, which aimed to test their problem-solving and reasoning skills. The challenge also highlighted the importance of the ability to think logically.
The children who participated thoroughly enjoyed this challenge and were rewarded with a certificate for their efforts. Although some of the questions were very demanding, all children persevered and we are very proud of their achievements.
Well done Year 6!
