World environment day is on Tuesday 5th June 2018 and this year’s theme is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution.’ If you have been following the news and social media you would have realised that plastic pollution is a huge threat to our planet in many ways. It is essential for our children to be taught the importance of looking after the environment, as it is crucial to the sustainability of our planet.
Therefore at Stanton Bridge we have decided to put together a few activities and events to raise awareness and develop our children’s understanding of this global issue. Please see below:
Children to start bringing in plastic bottles they have collated over the half term, so we as a school can recycle in bulk. We will choose some children to accompany us to a local recycling point.
All year groups to plan a P4C Lesson: e.g. recycling, climate change etc. There are also resources available on the below websites:

EYFS – Draw a picture to reflect the topic and write sentences to explain what is happening, how we could help, their feelings etc.
Year 1, 2 & 3 – Write a persuasive letter encouraging people to recycle. We will take the best letters to post to the community.
Years 4, 5 & 6 – Write a persuasive argument to explain the effects of plastic pollution on the environment and the further repercussions this has globally.
We will also be choosing children to write a blog for our school website.
During the afternoon pupils can make posters that represent the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution.’ Teachers to pick out the best 5 posters that could potentially be sent to campaign groups to be published.

Plastic Recycling
As a school the students collected plastic throughout the week and had an enormous amount. Before we recycled it we made a sign on the field of 'Save the Globe'. We believe everyone should recycle as much as possible.
